DNA Confirms Austrian Fathered Children With His Daughter

DNA tests revealed that Fritzl was the father of Elisabeth's six surviving children.



Members of the Austrian family had an "astonishing" reunion at the clinic where they are getting psychiatric counseling.

Mr Kepplinger said: "The reunion went incredibly well, they got along very well and it was far more successful than anticipated.

"It was astonishing how the grandmother and Elisabeth immediately came together. It was a very emotional scene."

PREVIOUS CONVICTIONS

Even though Mr Fritzl’s former employers and neighbours – as well as newspaper investigations – revealed that he had previous convictions for sex offences and arson in the 1970s and the 1980s, the authorities claimed that it would probably be impossible to recover the original criminal records because such documents were not kept in Austria after a certain time.
